We thought it was time to shine some light on our exceptional U.S. Account Management & Sales team. Account Managers at Net Natives oversee the execution of all projects for key U.S. partners. Account Managers are responsible for taking in and challenging client briefs and providing the right solutions to address our partners’ business objectives. Gus Bolognesi is the Senior Account Manager who oversees the US Sales Team in Brooklyn, New York. Gus is here to give us all the inside scoop within the US Account Management & Sales team and tell us a little bit more about his life here at Net Natives.
So, tell us a bit about your background… What brought you to Net Natives?
I’m originally from Brazil and moved to the UK when I was about 11 years old with little to no English. I studied at international schools and went to the University of Portsmouth where I graduated in International Business. Since then, I’ve worked in Spain for a year then moved to Australia where I completed my Masters in Business Administration at the University of Newcastle.
Prior to Net Natives, I was working at a smaller agency that also specialized in Education. As a result, I was fortunate enough to be headhunted through LinkedIn by the former Head of Product Sales at Net Natives. That’s where it all began really....
What are you looking forward to achieving at Net Natives?
I’ve been given the opportunity to develop the US Agency in New York. I’ve moved over the Brooklyn to manage the fantastic US Account Management team for Net Natives and Akero. So far, we’ve had an incredible 2019, with various exciting projects across the country with the likes of NYU Global Public Health, NYU Meyers and the University of Alabama Graduate School, and it really feels like this is just the start. I am really looking forward to seeing how much disruption we will cause to the North American HE sector in the coming years.
Could you tell us what a typical day at Net Natives looks like for you?
My day is usually split into three different focuses.
Firstly, I work on managing our key US accounts, having weekly meetings and reporting on how we are performing against their business objectives while making recommendations to optimize any ongoing projects.
Secondly, I manage a team of two Account Managers and two Business Development Representatives. I am responsible for our target across our extensive portfolio of products and services, so I am always looking at data and market insights to ensure that our outreach strategy is constantly improving. As an outcome-focused agency, we take a consultative approach to our university partnerships, so ensuring my team is articulate and trained on the ins and outs of the HE landscape is a key aspect of my job.
The last focus of my day tends to be scoping out new opportunities that are out there, whether that is through events, or writing RFPs. I usually work closely with our Chief Growth Officer to identify new partners which we could potentially pitch our services to.
I am really looking forward to seeing how much disruption we will cause to the North American HE sector in the coming years.
Is there a part of your role that you find the most fulfilling?
People development is definitely the best part of my job. I put a lot of effort into having a close relationship with my team, understanding what their goals and aspirations are, and offering them an opportunity to pursue those in an environment that they feel happy to be a part of.
Secondly, I also love working with strategic partners where we are responsible for supporting every aspect of their marketing strategy. From research to creative strategy and concepting, all the way to implementation, planning and execution. There really is nothing better than spending countless hours on a strategic project and seeing it take off and grow into something bigger! When our campaigns make an impact, that’s a really rewarding thing y’know.
How would you describe the office life in Net Natives NYC HQ?
Fun, vibrant, and extremely fast-paced!
Do you have a 'proudest moment' in your career to date?
Helping secure four of our biggest contracts to date in the US during my first eight months in NY. I feel like we’ve been making more noise than ever on this side of the pond, and I could not be any prouder of what we’ve achieved so far!
What do you get up to outside of work?
I like anything outdoorsy. I like to travel any chance I get, exploring new regions and countries, which is something I’ve been lucky enough to do since an early age.
